The Bentley Continental R is the ultimate in post-war Bentleys and one of the most beautiful cars in the British automobile history. The Continental R was introduced in 1952 and was built until 1955.

Some history: About a year before the second world war a gentleman from Paris, Mr. Embiricos, ordered a special Bentley.  The Bentley "special" was developed by Bentley and Rolls Royce engineers (Rolls Royce took over Bentley Motors in the year 1931) and the Frenchman Georges Paulin who designed the streamlined bodywork with extensive windtunnel testing. In 1939 this experimental Bentley was known as the "Continental".

Years later, in the year 1951, Bentley/ Rolls Royce started developing the actual production model, of the Bentley Continental, in coöperation with Mulliner coachbuilders.
The streamlined bodywork was fully made of aluminium alloy and had a weight of only 340 kilogrammes. The Bentley Continental was equipped with servo-assisted drumbrakes which still have very convincing stopping-power in our modern time.
The first production series was equipped with a 4566 cc. cast-iron six-cylinder engine with a capacity of approximately 150 bhp. In the last production series the engine was bored up to 4887 cc. giving a capacity of approximately 175 bhp.
The Bentley Continentals were delivered with a manual four-speed gearbox with overdrive or a four-speed automatic gearbox. The Continentals with manual gear and overdrive are able to drive 120 miles per hour at a lazy 3000 rpm...

The Bentley Continental R was the most expensive, and fastest four/ five person, production car in it's time, and all were built for export. The Bentley Continental R came as close to perfection as was possible those days. The comfort, silence and excellent roadholding capabilities made drivers compare the Continental R with a flying carpet...
I can tell you that the comparison still stands; the car really drives, feels and looks - very - special ...
