Information
Jaguar Super
Sport special, year 1962. Colour green with a cognac brown leather
interior. This Super Sport special was built in the USA in the year
1964. The car was based upon a 1962 Jaguar E-type 3.8 Litre. The body
was manufactured from GRP. One has to look twice and knock on the body
to be sure it is not aluminium. The car was recently taken apart and
given a beautiful new paint job. This car is in excellent condition! Around the year 1977 the owner decided to
beef up the engine power using a Turbocharger. The exhaust manifold had
to be re-arranged over the rocker covers to find suitable space for the
carburettors and the Turbocharger. The engine became too high to fit in
the engine room. A lower Jaguar XK 2.4 Litre engine block was taken of
the shelf and bored out up to 3000 cc. The short stroke engine also
provided advantages using the Turbocharger. In
the year 2003 the Super Sport went over in British hands. The new owner
created a passenger seat (before the seat was present but the body was
closed). He also fitted lamps so the car could be approved for use on
the public road. In may 2004 a new dashboard was mounted with a variety
of gauges displaying pressures and temperatures of the engine and
Turbocharger. In June 2004 the engine was ready after a full overhaul. Recently
new Dunlop alloy wheels were fitted as were new tires.
This Jaguar Super Sport special was inspired on the Jaguar D-type racing
car. It does not claim to be a D-type so it is not a replica. This car
is a true and well built special, a superb driver for the enthusiast!
The car can be driven modestly without problems keeping the needle below
4500 rpm. Above 4500 rpm. the Turbocharger starts to sing it's song;
earthshaking heavy metal! You feel yourself being gunned away in a
blast; unreal, fantastic and intense...
