The Daimler
Sovereign was introduced in 1968 as the Jaguar XJ 6/ Daimler Sovereign.
The Daimler Sovereign combined the qualities of a sports car and a
limousine in one car. The Daimler Sovereign had sublime road holding,
was very fast, very comfortable and very quiet. All these
characteristics were united in the most timeless and delightful sporty
limousine design Jaguar had ever drawn. The Sovereign was manufactured
between 1968 and 1973 as an MKI version, and was fitted with a 4235cc
six-cylinder engine.
From 1973 to
the early eighties the MKII version was produced.
In 1973, a very strong V12 engine with 265 horsepower was to be
available. The car with the V12 engine was called the Daimler "Double
Six".
The Daimler
Sovereign was provided with a rack and pinion steering, independent
wheel-suspension, power steering and springs that prevented the car from
‘diving’ when the brakes were applied.
