In the year 1973 Porsche presented a car study, on the Paris car show, which would result in the introduction of the Porsche 911 Turbo in the year 1974.
The 911 Turbo was introduced as the top of the line Porsche model, loaded with all technical Porsche know how and a lot of luxury.
Porsche planned to build only 500 Turbo models but the car became so popular amongst Porsche adepts that Porsche decided to go on producing the model.
The 911 Turbo was equipped with a 3.0 liter flat six boxer engine which was based upon the Carrera RS engine. All parts of the powerful Turbo engines were inspected thoroughly before they were fitted.
The Porsche 911 Turbo engine produced 260 DIN bhp. and a torque of 343 Nm. at 4000 rpm. The car was able of reaching a top speed of 246 kilometers per hour and it accelerated from 0-100 km/h. in 6.1 seconds.
The bodywork of the 911 Turbo was easy do distinguish from it's less potent brothers; the rear wings were much wider and a large spoiler was fitted to the rear end. The Porsche 911 Turbo was produced until 1993 with some slight model changes. In the spring of 1995 the 911/993 Turbo was introduced.
