Technical data

The Porsche 911 is the evergreen of this famous German sportscar make. The 911 was designed by Ferry ("Butzi") Porsche. The Porsche 911 succeeded the Porsche 356 in the end of the year 1963. From this moment on the famous "flat-six" air-cooled engine was used by Porsche. Only the Porsche 912, produced between 1965 and 1969 was equipped with the flat- four cylinder 356 engine.
Like the 356 the 911 was built using the same concept with a rear mounted engine. This concept evolved over the years and is still actual in the Porsche 911 model built today.
The flat-six air-cooled engine was at first available with a cylinder capacity of 1991 cc. and 130 bhp. Over the years the cylinder capacity increased; 1969 2195 cc., 1971 2341 cc., 1973 2687 cc., 1975 2993 cc. and in 1979 3258 cc. giving an output of 300 bhp. in the Porsche 911 Turbo.
The cars design was slightly restyled during its life, in the end of 1968 the car became a six cm. longer wheelbase and more pronounced wheel arches. In 1973 even more changed; the car became new bumpers, the rear light cluster was redesigned as was the interior. Over the last decade the car evolved even more but the basic design did not change. In the late nineties an entirely new designed 911 appeared, in concept still the same but larger and now with a water cooled flat-six.
A classic that will probably be built forever...
