The Lancia Aurelia saw the light of day in the year 1950. The first models introduced were the sedan, station car and limousine. According to Lancia traditions the Aurelia again was a hallmark in technical innovation. The car featured a light alloy (aluminium) 60° V6 engine and a gearbox with clutch fitted to the rear axle (Transaxle construction) The Transaxle construction made an ideal weight distribution, on the front and rear axles, possible. The car also featured a unitary bodywork structure.
The Aurelia convertible was introduced on the Paris Salon in the year 1950. The convertible was designed and manufactured by PininFarina. Lancia delivered special lowered 'rolling chassis' for the convertible. The right hand driven models were named B50, the lefthanders B51. In total only 265 B50 and B51 cars have been built. These very elegant automobiles featured all luxury available in the 1950'ies.
